Sun in Bloom is an adorable little vegan restaurant, nestled in the heart of Park Slope, Brooklyn. CH and I first dined there when we were scouting out Brooklyn neighborhoods to relocate to from the Chicago suburbs.
While waiting for our check, I remember fantasizing about living nearby - imagining that I'd visit at least once a week, laptop or Kindle in tow, seeking refuge from my busy New York life at a place that makes food so delicious I could weep.
Dramatic? A little. But something about Sun in Bloom drew me to the neighborhood that I've called home for the past year or so of my life, and I couldn't be happier.
Not only is Sun in Bloom completely vegan, but they have tons of raw food options, as well as gluten-free and macrobiotic dishes. Juices and smoothies abound here, too, as do lots of amazing desserts. (I once ordered a pumpkin cupcake here that had a pumpkin seed in it. You don't get much more homemade than that!)
Oh yea, and Sun in Bloom is organic and kosher, too. Lest you think they left anything out...

Here, just as with several other restaurants, I have have a handful of favorites items that are difficult to pass up. One is the Bloom Burger, which is a "live" burger that comes with tomato, basil, caramelized onions, cabbage, and sunflower dill dressing (so good!). The other is the Western Burrito, which is made up of zesty sunflower pate, fresh salsa, avocado, zucchini, cabbage, and sunflower dill dressing. I like them both in collard green wraps, but they're also available as a salad or on a sprouted wheat bun, if that's your thing.
I also love the appetizer kale salad (pictured two photos above), which is massaged with sesame ginger dressing and is almost suspiciously delicious. For dessert, I adore the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich (which kinda speaks for itself), although everything I've tried has been phenomenal.
Pictured above (clock-wise from top right) are: a pumpkin cupcake, the Bella Divine Salad with avocado, dulse, house-made sauerkraut, kale, and "live" sesame ginger dressing; the hummus plate and a bowl of soup; Sun in Bloom's sign; and the Bloom Burger in a collard green wrap.
