Vegan Ranch Dressing

Oddly, one of the things that I've missed most during my journey toward veganism is Ranch Dressing. Ever since I was little, I've been a huge salad fan, but until about 5 years ago, it didn't even occur to me that other (healthier) salad dressings existed.

Since then, I've enjoyed creating all kinds of delectable vinaigrettes and olive oil dressings, but I still haven't been able to completely kick my Ranch-craving.

To make matters worse, no matter how many pre-made vegan Ranch dressings I've tried, I haven't been able to find a decent one. In fact, my little brother - Mr. Sister, as I so affectionately call him - can definitely confirm my Ranch-related research. He almost gagged after tasting the vegan bottled brand that I offered him while he was staying with me last summer. It wasn't pretty.

Thus, I've since set out to create my own, non-gag-inducing vegan Ranch dressing. So far, the following recipe has been my best bet. And although it doesn't taste identical to regular Ranch, I like it better anyway...

Recipe: Vegan Ranch Dressing1 c. Vegenaise ("Original" flavor)
1/2 c. unsweetened soymilk
2 1/2 tsp. dried parsley
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. fresh ground black pepper
1/8 tsp. salt + more to taste

1.) Whisk ingredients together in a bowl, adding more Vegenaise or soymilk to thicken or thin dressing, as desired.
2.) Taste, add salt if necessary, & chill before using.

Tip: If a more flavorful dressing is preferred, add a few extra shakes of onion or garlic powder. In addition, avoid the use of fresh garlic/herbs here, as the dressing won't retain its freshness as long.

  1. You're a kindred spirit - I used to LOVE ranch dressing. Everything I've tried to replace it is so foul I can't believe companies actually package and try to sell it! I've tried making homemade versions a couple of times and also failed miserably. Maybe your recipe will be better!
